ABLE NFE School

Non-Formal Education for Children

Program Vision: Every Child has the Right of Education.

Education is one of the most effective agents of change in society. Education sets off a cycle of positive change.Millions of children in India lack access to education and can’t even write their own names. Addressing this concern ABLE CHARITIES initiated the non-formal education program (NFE Schools) for children in slums and unauthorised places with the following thought: “IF THE CHILDREN CANNOT GO TO SCHOOL, THE SCHOOL MUST GO TO THE CHILDREN". Presently ABLE is running 10 Non-Formal Education (NFE) Schools where 1100+ children are learning basics.

The journey of ABLE NFE School Project started in September, 2001. The ABLE NFE Schools are situated in Faridabad District in Haryana State, India

The exact location of the ABLE NFE Schools are:

The ABLE NFE Schools impart three hours learning every day. NFE Centers are running with three timings >>> (i) 8.00 am to 11.00am, (ii) 10.30am to 1.30pm; and (iii) 3.00pm to 6.00pm. With grass root learnings, the timings have been refined TO SUIT THE CHILDREN. (This has been noticed that rag pickers children join 10.30 am shift after completing their daily rig-morale. Many students come to complete their home work, they prefer 3.00 to 6.00pm shift). Moreover, children between the ages of 11 to 14 years are hugely vulnerable to dropping out of school. Their vulnerability increases three-fold as their parents are transient laborers and move from one place to another based on the employment availability.This instability impacts the availability of education.

The ABLE NFE Schools have been opened with a focus on proximity to children so that they can attend whenever they have the time. In NFE Schools, ABLE provide
(i) Basic education just to make them literate;
(ii) Books and stationery including note books, pencil, slates with chalk
(iii) Medical checkup, need based medical support, medicine and basic vaccinations at regular intervals.
