Non-Formal Education for Children
Education is one of the most effective agents of change in society. Education sets off a cycle of positive change, but, millions of children in India lack access to education and can’t even write their own names. Moreover, children between the ages of 11 to 14 years are hugely vulnerable to dropping out of school. Their vulnerability increases three-fold as their parents are transient labourers and move from one place to another based on the employment available, this instability impacts the availability of education.

Addressing this concern ABLE CHARITIES initiated the non-formal education program for children in slums and unauthorised places with the following thought:

“IF THE CHILDREN CANNOT GO TO SCHOOL, THE SCHOOL SHOULD GO TO THE CHILDREN"

We thus open schools where the children are and can attend the school whenever they have the time. We run these schools with three timings i.e. 8am to 11am, 10.30am to 1.30 and 3pm to 6pm TO SUIT THE CHILDREN e.g. rag pickers can come to our schools only after 10.30am after they have finished picking rags in the streets. We give basic education in our centers just to make them literate. We provide note books, pencil, slates with chock free to children. Beside this free medical checkup, need based medical support, medicine and basic vaccinations is being provided with support of other likeminded organization.

Since April 2018 Mid-Day meal support to these children was started with 120 children now reached to approximately 400 children.

Wherever we find children are regular in our centers and attending our centers more than a year we link up them with regular school. Our 180 children are attending the regular govt. school from our 36 Gaz colony, BPTP and Old Railway station slum.

These children come to us for their homework and we appointed one teacher (at each centers) to help them with their homework and to make sure that their parents attend their PTM and children are continued with their education.

The location of our current centers are BPTP chowk sec-81 , Red light chowk sector-12 by pass road, By pass slums Badoli Village, Mujeri village, Ragpickers colony near Princess park society, Old Railway station slums, Construction worker children at Parkland, Slum near sector 12 town park, 36 Gaz slums colony sec-3, Gali number-3 near Sai temple Faridabad.

At present we have nearly 700 children in these schools (non-formal centers).

Program vision: Every Child has the right of education.
